Big Feelings, Small Bodies: A Somatic Play Therapy Approach to Anxiety

Anxiety often shows up in children long before they have the words to describe it. This experiential training explores a body-up (bottom-up) approach to play therapy that helps young clients regulate big feelings through movement, breath, sensory play, and attunement. Grounded in neuroscience and attachment theory, this workshop will equip clinicians with somatic tools and playful interventions that support nervous system regulation, build emotional resilience, and foster safety in the therapeutic relationship.

Learning Objectives:

  • Demonstrate somatic play therapy techniques, including movement, breath, and sensory activities, to support nervous system regulation.

  • Explore the role of attachment and neuroscience principles in guiding play therapy for anxious children.

  • Apply playful interventions to help children express and process big emotions safely.

Two Homes, One Heart: Play Therapy for Children of Divorce

Divorce can shake a child’s sense of safety, identity, and belonging. Two Homes, One Heart is a play therapy training designed to help clinicians support children navigating family separation. This workshop offers practical, developmentally appropriate interventions to help children process big emotions, reduce self-blame, and adjust to changes in family dynamics. Through experiential learning, participants will explore how play therapy can foster emotional expression, build coping skills, and promote connection in the midst of transition.

Once Upon a Time in Therapy: Using Bibliotherapy to Transform Play

In this hands-on seminar, you’ll explore how storytelling can serve as a powerful tool in helping children navigate emotions, process trauma, and develop healthy coping mechanisms. Whether you’re new to bibliotherapy or looking to deepen your practice, this training will provide you with practical techniques and creative strategies to weave the magic of stories into therapeutic play.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define bibliotherapy and describe its role within play therapy.

  • Identify key principles of therapeutic play and how they apply to storytelling interventions.

  • Demonstrate techniques for integrating books and storytelling into play therapy sessions.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of bibliotherapy as a tool within play therapy interventions.

  • Use therapeutic play to foster coping skills, resilience, and self-awareness in children.

  • Reflect on personal and professional approaches to integrating bibliotherapy into play therapy practice.

 Cancellations must be submitted in writing via email at least 72 hours prior to the start of the training to receive a full refund, minus any applicable processing fees. 

Cancellations made less than 72 hours before the training are non-refundable, but registrants may request to transfer their registration to a future training (if available). 

In the event that the training is canceled by the organizer, all registrants will receive a full refund.
